HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK
October 2nd, Guiding Spirits Day, this is the day when Pagans give thanks to their spirit guides for their protection and counsel. Review in your memory the times when you heeded to an inner voice, and think of the way that affected your choices. Start a new practice of journaling each time you act on your inner voice. Also, try journaling every time you experience synchronicity in your life. This serves to strengthen the connection between you and your guides. Give thanks to your guides for their guardianship. Do you have any questions for them? See if you can contact them through meditation or a divinatory tool.

October 4th, Jejunium Cereris, Ceres is the mother goddess of all growing things and of creativity. As the goddess of living beings, Ceres governs over decline and death- the inevitable fate of the living. In ancient Rome, Pagans honored Ceres today in a day of fasting. Mystics have often used fasting to signal their physical bodies that change is coming. Think of fasting not as a deprivation but as an opportunity to observe the holes in our lives we are filling with food, sex, smoking, compulsive shopping, or TV. Fasting is a way to regain self-control thereby empowering us. Whatever you choose to fast from today, make it something that is meaningful enough that you will feel the sense of strength from having fasted from it. At the day’s close, burn an orange candle. Ask Ceres to guide you into leading a more creative life.

October 7th, Feast of Ma’at, today is the feast day of Ma’at, Egyptian goddess of justice and fairness, whose symbol is an ostrich feather. In mythology, Ma’at’s feather was used to weight against mortal hearts in the Hall of Justice to determine their fate in the afterlife. Is there an issue in your life right now that can benefit from the attention of Ma’at? See this week’s spell for a solution.

October 8th, Yom Kippur, the most sacred of the Jewish holidays, Yom Kippur is the day of atonement for sins. The day is spent fasting and praying, and it occurs ten days after Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year). Atonement really means at-one-ment. Reflect for a moment about ways that you have not been at-one-ment with “God”. Without indulging in guilt, reflect on ways that you can be at-one-ment, or at peace within yourself with God. Fasting and spending the day in reflection is a good way to spend this day for your peace of mind, or to spark your creativity.
--Living a Sacred Life, by Robin Heerens Lysne
October 10th, Columbus Day, supposedly the day that Christopher Columbus “discovered” America.
DEFINITION OF THE DAY: Summerland- sort of a Pagan "heaven"; a place after death; the otherside.
AFFIRMATION: Change. This is a time of many changes in the weather, as well as changes in myself. I notice what needs changing, and I give my attention to it. I am at peace sorting and letting go.
QUOTE: “In theory there is but one religion, in practice, there are as many religions as there are people.” ~Buddha
THOUGHT: Gods and goddesses are not understood as literalistic truths, but are seen deeper truths about the nature of reality expressed in metaphorical story form.
PRAYER: Cast Away Negativity Prayer Cast away all doubt and fears,
That drag the spirit down.
Cast away all sorrow's tears,
That leave the soul to drown.
Cast away all darkest things,
Shadows of the self.
Cast away all painful stings,
That wound the heart so well.
Gather up all that to rid,
And bind it nice and tight.
Include those things that are well hid,
From your loved one's sight.
Throw it from you, so far away,
As one would throw a stone.
Into a pond or ocean's wave,
To sink so deep alone. So mote it be.
SOOOOOOOOO………WHAT IS THE WORST INJUSTICE YOU’VE EVER SUFFERED???
SPELL: Ma’at’s Justice Spell For this spell you will need a feather and a blue candle. On the candle, engrave the symbol of a feather and Ma’at’s name. If you have any items that relate to the injustice, such as a letter, place them on your altar. Light the candle and say: “There is a situation that seems unfair, I look for an outcome that harms none. Ma’at, you have a right to effect what you deem is fair To ensure that order and justice are done.”
MEDITATION: I pay attention to my breathing. ...... My breath is always with me. ...... As I breathe in, I breathe in the light, I breathe in illumination. ...... As I breathe out, I breathe out anything that I don't desire or need. ...... I let each breath take me deeper and deeper within. ...... I let my breath take me to the silent place within, to the depth, to the core of my being. ......As I move to the silent place within, I easily let go of distractions from the outer world, from today's experiences. As thoughts float through my head, I acknowledge and release them. ...... As noises in my environment remind me of the outside world, I acknowledge them with an instant's attention and then return to the inner, silent place. ...... As feelings come up, I notice and acknowledge them and turn again to that inner place. ......Again, I let my breathing assist me. I breathe in light and breathe out heaviness. ...... I breathe in clarity and breathe out confusion. ...... I breathe in peace and breathe out disharmony. ...... I breathe in and I breathe out, becoming more at peace and more relaxed. ......I open "at the top." I open at the crown center just above the top of my head. ...... I see or imagine that I see a ball of energy sitting above my head. I welcome this vibrant, healing, beautiful energy as it flows in and flows downward. ...... It helps me to feel lighter and freer. ...... As this energy moves into all the layers and levels of my being, I find it easier to give up dark density, to give up anything that's unkind or heavy or uncomfortable. ...... I let go easily with each out-breath.As I continue to bring this energy from the higher planes into my awareness, I bring it right down through my physical body, ...... down to my heart space, ...... down to my waist, ...... down to my ankles, ...... down to the bottoms of my feet, ...... and down to the center of the earth. ...... This establishes a flow of energy, a path, so that unneeded stuff is easily and effortlessly removed, dissolved, dissipated. ......As energy from above is anchored down deep into the center of the earth, I open "at the bottom" — at the bottoms of my feet and the base of my spine. ...... Earth energy flows upward. ...... This rich, dense earth energy replaces and even displaces dark density that is released because of the light from above. ...... I feel (sense, see, intuit, hear, imagine) this energy flowing through me.Now, in the middle of this centered, clear place, I give my focused attention to the purpose of this guided meditation: (Say the word or phrase you have identified.) ...... I see (feel, sense, hear, intuit) this word (phrase) as I call it forth as the focus of my attention right now. ...... Nothing else matters. All that matters right now in this moment is (the idea) — which is the focus of my attention. I feel it. ..... I look at it. ...... I turn it upside down and inside out. I dance with it and play with it. I let it move through my fingers and toes. I know it's a word (phrase) that represents and re-presents a deeper idea. ......I turn my attention again to my breath. ...... I breathe deeply. I breathe (the idea) into my cellular structure. ...... I allow (the idea) to transform itself into a seed which I can hold in my hand. ...... As I gently hold this precious seed in my hand, I till the soil, rake away debris, remove stones and rocks and blocks which might interfere with the growth of this seed. ...... Some of these fragments can be used to feed the soil or protect the seed. My consciousness creates life. ...... This seed is ready for planting. ......In my mind's eye, I see the perfect place to plant the seed (a garden, my heart, a forest, my mind, my hand, an apple orchard, my feet, my office, etc.)..... This seed germinates according to my consciousness. I let it grow instantly or over time, at exactly the perfect rate of speed and depth and height. ...... My love fertilizes the seed. I am creating (the idea). ......Again, I turn my attention to breathing deeply, moving myself to a deeper state of consciousness. ..... Deeper within. .... Deeper into the silence. .... Deep into the core of my being. ..... I see (feel, hear, sense, smell, intuit) the seed is at a deeper level now, moving into its essence. I merge with its vibration, its radiance. ......I present my seed to the universe so that it can become a seedling that grows into (the idea). I send my seed through the ethers so that it can be returned to me manifested as (the idea). ...... I let it go. ...... I let go of control. I let go of trying to make this seed grow and, instead, allow it to grow by nourishing the soil, listening to my soul, and honoring the purity of my heart. ...... It is planted. ......As weeds sprout, I tend to them immediately. If I feel sorry for myself or get angry or compare myself to others or entertain doubt, I stop to pull these weeds joyously. ...... I'm responsible for the growth of this seedling and for protecting it from strangulation. I snip the weeds, without resorting to poison so the seedling can grow without toxicity. I see (feel, imagine) the seed grow, right now in this moment. ...... I feel its growth either inside me or outside me. It is from me. It is my creation. ...... I am creating (the idea). ......Each day I return to the seedling in a way that fits for me. ...... As I check on the seed, I'm careful not to pull the seedling from the fertile soil. I bring it water by allowing my enthusiasm to propel its growth. ...... I bring it sunshine and light through my intention, enthusiasm, fire and desire for (the idea). I strengthen the soil by remaining grounded and steadfast. I bring it air by breathing deeply, with the intention of growing the seed. And most of all, I bring it my love. ...... I feed it love. ...... I trust the seed that's planted in fertile soil to grow from a seedling into the only form it can become: (the idea), just as the only mature form of an acorn is a mighty oak. A carrot grows from a carrot seed. ......In this relaxed and confident consciousness, I begin to turn my attention to my next activity. (Other reading, meditation, sleep, work, etc.) ...... I turn my attention there effortlessly, trusting my seed to the Universe. ...... I take three deep breaths. ...... Each in-breath breathes in the light and each out-breath breathes out anything I don't need or want. ...... On the third exhalation, I move into that next activity either by feeling alert and refreshed or by going into a deep meditation, further reflection, or sleep.
GODDESS: Neith- Egyptian Creator Goddess, Goddess of Arts and Crafts, Healing, Herbs, Knowledge, Magick, Marriage, Meditation, Mysticism, Rituals, Women. Titles include That Which Is, The Terrifying, The Huntress, Opener of the Ways, and Lady of the West. She is the virgin mother of Ra; sometimes identified as the mother of Sobek, the daughter of Ra and the wife of Khnum. She wears the red crown of Lower Egypt and carries a bow and two arrows in her hands. Sacred animals include the bee, cat, perch and snake.
GOD: Kephera- Creator God, God of Change, Compassion, Gentleness, Healing, Literary Abilities, Miracles, New Beginnings, Reincarnation, the Sun, and Transformation. Titles include He Who Becomes. His sacred animals include the crab, dolphin, fish, lobster or crayfish, scarab beetle, scorpion, sphinx, turtle, and wolf.
HERB/TREE: Clover- Magic often favors a humble site. Common clover was once regarded as a holy herb with links to the dark goddess Hecate. The three-leaf form and obvious preference for the wild meadow rather than the confines of a garden echoed her themes of mystery. Old spell book named clover and trefoil and we find it listed along with vervain and dill, herbs of witchcraft. It is included among the herbs to fling upon Midsummer Fires. Trefoil was an herb to be collected, dried, and wrapped in linen as a love charm. The good luck associated with the four-leaf clover is of relatively recent origin. Its rarity and symbolic cross pattern are possible reasons. Each leaf represents a gift for its finder: fame, fortune, a faithful lover, and health.
GEMSTONE: Carnelian- is a red stone held in highest regard by Mediterranean and Eastern peoples, who place great faith in it as an amulet against the Evil Eye and envy. Protection against envy is especially important, since they believe that envy can do great harm by stripping away that which is envied. When used for this purpose, the carnelian usually has a prayer engraved on it. The prophet Mohammed himself wore a carnelian ring. Carnelian is said to bring confidence and eloquence to those who are timid, or perhaps terrified, of public speaking. The stone is said to keep the wearer even-tempered and peaceful, and to increase sexual energy as well. For health, carnelian is worn as a remedy for unhealthy skin and for problems involving blood.
POEM: The Spiral Between the worlds,
I waited in a time that is no time, a place that is no place
I sought the portal, the spirit thread, the path through the veil.
And yet there was no key to unlock that elusive door.
"Give me a sign, show me the way"
I whispered.
From the hidden shadows a voice replied.
“You know…you know…”
The beat of ancient hoofs drummed incessantly and loudly on the land and on my soul.
Overwhelmed,
Dizzy,
I waited.
Hardly daring to breathe,
Forced to the centre of my being.
Trapped in a spiral
Going down.
He – the Dark Lord was unrelenting,
His hot, heavy breath rasped upon my cheek.
Suffocating,
Hot, choking.
Forcing me to think of answers
To questions long forgotten.
"Give me a clue," I begged
Nausea rising.
But he just laughed,
His hoof beats drumming louder and closer,
Filling my head with unrelenting thunder.
"All you have to do is look" he chided
"But where, tell me where" I pleaded.
I shouted to the wind.
It cried back mockingly,
And his voice echoed in the night,
"You know .......... you know"
The drumming hoof beats ceased.
Silence.............
He left as mysteriously as he had come,
His work done.
"Walk the spiral path," he said
"The key to unlock the door lies at the centre.
For what you seek is at the centre of your being.
The spiral path will lead you in
And take you further still again."
