HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK
September 29th, Rosh Hashanah, this Jewish religious holiday, literally meaning “rosh”- “head”, and “Hashanah”- “the year”, or Jewish New Year. During this solemn holiday, Jews begin ten days of penitence, which ends on Yom Kippur, which is the Day of Atonement. During Rosh Hashanah, Jews pray for forgiveness, a good year, and a long life. The rabbi sounds a ram’s horn called the shofar, which calls Jews to repent and reminds people of current affairs that affect Jews. Three sets of prayers are recited during Rosh Hashanah to remind people of God’s omnipotence, that God responds to the shofar, and that God remembers deeds.
ALSO September 29th, Michaelmas, the feast of Saint Michael is observed in the churches of the West. It is a day to dine on goose for good luck, and in some European nations it’s a time to pay rents and take care of business. In some areas of southern Europe he is invoked when someone wishes to break the curse of the evil eye. He is the Christianized aspect of the god Mars. And he also resembles the Lord of the Wild Hunt, the god force that leads the spirits from the Otherworld as they ride horseback across the night skies of autumn and winter. Like the leader of the Wild Hunt, he is not only both warrior and protector, he also receives the souls of the dead. Water and high places such as hills are sacred to Saint Michael. If you need St. Michael’s aid, it is traditionally done by saying his name out loud three times. Then proceed to ask him for help concerning your specific need.
October 1st, According to Shinto belief, during the month of October the gods gather to hold their annual convention. All of the kami converge on the great temple of Isumo in western Honshu, and there they relax, compare notes on crucial god business, and make decisions about humankind. At the end of this month, all over Japan, people make visits to their local Shinto shrines to welcome the regular resident gods back home. But until then, all through the month, the gods are missing.
--Witches’ Spell-a-Day Almanac 2007
DEFINITION OF THE DAY: Matrifocal- term used to denote pre-patriarchal life when family clans centered around and lived near or on clan matriarch.
AFFIRMATION: Radiant. In my heart lies my radiance. In every cell of my body, light is the foundation life force. Today I allow myself to feel radiant.
QUOTE: “In wilderness I sense the miracle of life, and behind it our scientific accomplishments fade to trivia.” ~Charles A. Lindbergh, Life, 22 December 1967
THOUGHT: People with similar beliefs are grouped together under a religious classification: Christian, Buddhist, Wiccan, etc. However, just because two people are grouped together for having similar beliefs does not mean that all of their beliefs are exactly the same. Because what we believe is based on what we are able to understand, and different people understand different things, it is only natural that we will have different beliefs. For example, if in your understanding you believe that the Bible is 100% fact and should be taken literally, you will probably accept its literal teachings without question. If in your understand you believe that scientifically some of the events in the Bible were simply physically impossible as described, you may interpret the Bible figuratively or come up with an explanation that isn't in the Bible to explain the event. It all depends on what you understand personally. If your understanding of an issue changes so that you understand different aspects of that issue, your beliefs will change also.
PRAYER: Blessed Lady of the Moon Prayer Blessed Lady of the Moon,
By Your grace, I ask a boon.
For health and purity of soul,
To harm no other is my goal.
To grow and nurture, peaceful mind,
To use the power that is mine.
To change those things not right for me,
As I will, so mote it be.
Lord of the Forest PrayerGracious Lord of Forest Wild,
Hearken to Your earthen child.
Protect me from harmful deeds,
That cloak my soul like choking weeds.
Fill me with Your strength and light,
Determination to me bind.
Creating changes that I seek,
As I will, so mote it be.
SOOOOOOOO……..WHAT ARE SOME WAYS YOU CAN CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE???
SPELL:
Spell for Change in Your Life
You’ll need one white candle and the Ace of Wands Tarot card. This spell should be done during the new moon. Light the white candle during the new moon and stare into the flame
Hold the Ace of Wands card in your hands up close to your heart
Allow your subconscious mind to wander until you are in a dreamy state and chant:
“Card of all that's fresh and new
Listen to what I beseech from you
I need inspiration bold and bright
new opportunities into light
Bring an open new world into play
and new beginnings bring my way
That I may start my life anew
Ace of Wands I conjure you.” Take the card down from your heart and place it beside the lighting white candle
Allow the candle to burn all the way down until it goes out by itself
Then, take the Ace of Wands card and carry it on your person.
MEDITATION:
Finding a Mantra
Sit in a comfy position. Picture yourself leaving your body and travel up to the cosmos.
See yourself sitting calmly in the center of the Universe. Concentrate on the stars, then after a few minutes of gazing at them, a few of the stars will glow a bright baby blue.
Concentrate on one bright blue star at a time. As you gaze at that particular star, you may hear a phrase or word whispered in your head. Repeat what you hear and focus inward. If the mantra is right for you, you will know it within. If it is not right for you, simply gaze at another blue star and repeat this until you find a mantra that fits you.
After you find a mantra, thank the Universe and feel yourself slowly descending from the sky, back into your body.
When you open your eyes, you might feel a little tired or drained. I find that drinking a nice cold cup of juice re-energizes my body. You might also wish to have a small snack. Milk and juice are ideal for recharging yourself.
GODDESS: Mut- Egyptian Creator Goddess, Goddess of Marriage, Motherhood, the Sky. Titles include Lady of Thebes, the Great Sorceress, and Eye of Ra. Wife of Amun-Ra. Most often depicted wearing a vulture headdress. Sacred animals include the cat, eagle, lion, and vulture. Sacred gemstones include agate, opal, pearl, and star sapphire.
GOD: Khensu- Egyptian God of Exorcism, Healing, and the Moon. Titles include The Wanderer, He Who Traverses, The Navigator, and God of the New Moon. He is the adopted son of Mut and Amun-Ra. Often seen as a man in mummy wrappings, wearing a skullcap topped with a disc in the crescent moon. Sacred animals include the baboon, cat, and falcon.
--Egyptian Love Spells and Rituals, by Claudia R. Dillaire
HERB/TREE: Centaury- Centaury is an herb said to have been discovered by the centaur Chiron, from whom the plant gets its name. The tiny pink flowers have five petals- the mark of a magic plant. Witches collect the blossoms, enclose them in tissue paper, and press them between the pages of a book. When three Moons have passed the flowers are placed in a locket and worn for good luck. In addition, centaury is believed to produce “strange imaginings” when mixed with oil and rubbed on a candle. The familiar French grimoire of ceremonial magic, Le Petit Albert, says that when this is done “all that compass about it shall believe their heads to be in heaven and their feet on earth; and if the aforesaid thing be put in the fire when the stars shine it shall appear that the stars run one against the other and fight.”
GEMSTONE: Bloodstone- the bloodstone is named for its appearance. It is a very dark green stone with tiny red flecks which resemble sprinkles of blood. The bloodstone is most commonly used as an amulet to guard the wearer against deception. It is also said to calm the angry. In the Leyden Papyrus, an Egyptian document of practical magic that dates to the 3rd century C.E., bloodstone receives the following praise for its amuletic properties, “The world has no greater thing; if any one have this with him he will be given whatever he asks for; it also assuages the wrath of kings and whatever the wearer says will be believed. Whoever bears this stone, which is a gem, and pronounces the name engraved upon it, will find all doors open, while bonds and stone walls will be rent asunder.”
POEM:
Plants and trees are focused in the Earth
Conserving their energy inside
We sit indoors, by the glow of the hearth
And we listen to hear our guide
Steps that rustle through autumn's leaves
The sun setting early in the day
We hear the sound as the Earth Mother grieves
In our havens we genuflect to pray
While waiting for the new son to be born
We too plant our seeds in the dark
We share a sup from the drinking horn
And wait for the flight of the lark
For there will come the appointed time
When the sun will ride high in the sky
Creativity will reach the peak of it's prime
Thoughts will have concrete wings that fly
Many cycles, through many years
Is the sacrifice we all must face
'Till we merge as one, without any fears
And joyfully become one race .......
