HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK
September 12th, Full Moon 5:27am
September 15th, Keirou no Hi (Respect for the Aged Day), Keirou no Hi has been a national holiday in Japan since 1966. On this day, the Japanese show respect to elderly citizens, celebrate their longevity, and pray for their health. Although there are no traditional customs specifically associated with this day, cultural programs are usually held in various communities. School children draw pictures or make handicraft gifts for their grandparents and elderly family friends or neighbors. Some groups visit retirement or nursing homes to present gifts to residents.
September 16th, Mexican Independence Day, Celebrated everywhere in Mexico as the day the Mexican Revolution began, September 16 is a more important holiday than Cinco de Mayo, which is the day that concludes Mexican Independence. Legend has it that on this day in 1810, a priest shouted “Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe!” from his pulpit in Dolores, Guanjuato. The shout spread across Mexico and meant to the people, “Down with Spanish rule! Let Mexicans rule themselves!” The priest, Father Hidalgo, was shot and beheaded for treason to the Spanish government, and the angry uprising that followed gave way to Mexican Independence. Currently the day is celebrated with feasts, flowers, fireworks, church bells pealing, cockfights, bullfights, and everywhere people shout “Viva la Virgen!” Take a moment to reflect on the areas in your life where you feel out of control, or where you feel you have no choice. Ask yourself why. Is it that you did not speak up? Has a job or family situation grown out of control? Perhaps you made previous choices that caused your present circumstances. Write down what you would like to happen. Then look again at the out of control areas, and brainstorm ways to change these circumstances step by step to your new choice. You may want to get a big sheet of paper and draw your current circumstances on one half of the sheet, what you would like, on the other, and a path between connecting the two. You may have to take baby steps, but each shift along the way will move you from feeling victimized to feeling like you have more autonomy.

DEFINITION OF THE DAY: Automatic Writing- Form of divination where the channeler uses a pen, paper and an altered state of consciousness to receive messages.
AFFIRMATION: Empower. Everyone has the ability to make an impact in their lives or the lives of others each day. Today I empower myself to make a difference by knowing I have choices.
--Living a Sacred Life, by Robin Heerens Lysne
QUOTE: “In each tradition the One Divine Reality, the One Eternal Truth, is present, but it is hidden under symbols…Always the Divine Mystery is hidden under a veil, but each revelation (or unveiling) unveils some aspect of the One Truth.” ~Bede Griffiths
THOUGHT: I am especially fortunate because the wind and sky, the trees and rocks, and the sticks and stars are usually in a teaching mood; so when I need an answer to some dilemma, I can generally get one. For which I must say thank you to them all… ~Paul Gunn Allen
PRAYER: Hail to the Holy One Hail to the Holy One who is everywhere.
In the day He is our King.
We lift our eyes upon his throne and see his golden crown.
The world is awaken by His warmth and given strength for the day.
Hail to the Holy One, our King.
Hail to the Holy One who is everywhere.
In the night She is our Queen.
We lift our eyes upon her throne and see the light of Her tender love.
We watch Her birth, life, and death, and follow Her path to re-birth.
Hail to the Holy One, our Queen.
SPELL: Herbal Charm for Inner Power Use a square of royal purple cloth, filled with bay leaf, Dragon’s Blood, elder flowers, High John the Conquerer Root, rosemary, vervain, oak leaf, holly leaf or berries, and mistletoe. Tie with blue thread and embroider or draw on your own personal symbol.
MEDITATION: Feel your feet on the ground. Notice how your weight is distributed on them: left and right, heel and ball, insides and outsides. What does the ground feel like beneath you? Notice your breath. Imagine sending your breath down through your body, down your legs, and out through your feet, like roots growing into the Earth.
Through the moist warm topsoil with the worms and other critters, down through the bones of our ancestors, down through the bedrock, through watery underground rivers and lakes, down, down, down . . . spreading out wide as they go. Like the roots of a tree, these tendrils keep seeking down into the heart of the Earth. Notice that they intermingle loosely with the roots of all the others in your circle. You are woven together in the Earth, one sacred grove of priestesses [and priests], united in the Mother. Eventually your roots begin to feel the warmth at the heart of the Earth, the fiery core of our Earth Mama. You are grounding through your meditation deep into the Earth. Let your roots take up residence in a wide circle, touching this heat, letting it warm them. Let the tips of your roots open, opening the channel between you and the Earth.
Now send down, with your breath, anything you want to release, to let go of, to transform. Send it down into the fiery Cauldron of the Goddess. She will transform it for you. It's what She does. Give it to Her, and be free. And now notice the immense pressure at the core of the Earth. That pressure will send the Earth energy up to you, when you allow your rootlets to open to it. Do so now.
Let the Earth energy flow in through your rootlets, effortlessly. Let it move up, up . . . up through the reaches of your root system. Moving up through the underground waters, up through the bedrock, up past the bones of our ancestors, up through the rich topsoil, and right up into the soles of your feet. This fiery energy keeps rising. You need do nothing but stand there and open to it.
It rises on its own, up through your legs, filling them with energy. Flowing up, up, filling your entire torso, your shoulders . . . . The heat relaxes and energizes as it fills the muscles. It flows down the arms into the hands and right through to the fingertips. It flows up through the neck and fills your entire head with brilliant energy. As you're grounding, keep your meditation breathing. Feel the energy rising. And it keeps filling you up, more and more and more, the energy field around your body suffused with this power. And still it keeps increasing until you feel full like a stretched balloon with this intense expansion of energy. So now let it fly out through the top of your head, high into the sky, where it touches the stars and mingles with their light, spreading out like leafy branches into the sky…
GODDESS: Ma’at- Goddess of Fate, Harmony, Judgment and Justice, Law, Order, Reincarnation, and Truth. Titles include Eye of Ra, Mistress of the Underworld, The Mother, and Lady of the Judgment Hall. She is the daughter of Ra and wife of Thoth. She is often depicted sitting on her heels, wearing an ostrich feather on her head. Sacred animals include the elephant, ostrich, and vulture. Her color is red. Her gemstone is emerald.
GOD: Horus- God of Prophecy, Protection, Retribution, Revenge, Success, and the Sun. Titles include God on the Horizon, Horus the Younger, Protector of His Father. He is son of Isis and Osiris, father of The Four Sons of Horus: Duamutef, Hapi, Imsety and Qebhsennuf. Conceived by magick after Osiris’s death. Most often depicted as a falcon or a falcon-headed man. Sacred animals include the bear, bull, crocodile, falcon, hawk, mongoose, lion, shrew, sphinx, and wolf. Gemstones include ruby and other red stones. His sacred herb is horehound.
--Egyptian Love Spells and Rituals, by Claudia R. Dillaire
HERB/TREE: Betony- Betony is an amuletic herb said to be endowed with power against evil spirits. Because of this, betony was frequently planted in churchyards and worn around the neck. For centuries, the herb has been widely used for medicinal purposes as well- so much so that an old Italian proverb says, “Sell your coat and buy betony.” Apuleius Platonicus in his Herbarium, which dates back to around 400 C.E., said this of betony. “It is good whether for a man’s soul or for his body; it shields him against visions and dreams, and the wort is very wholesome, and thus thou shalt gather it, in the month of August without the use of iron; and when thou hast gathered it, shake the mold till nought of it cleave thereon, and then dry it in the shade very thoroughly, and with its root altogether reduce it to dust; then use it and take of it when thou needst.” Betony does not grow wild here in America as it does throughout Europe. There are five species of betony, but the magical properties are often attributed only to the Stachys officinalis or Betonica officinalis varieties.
GEMSTONE: Aventurine- A type of quartz, usually green but occasionally can be found in yellow or even pink. Aventurine is not to be confused with “sunstone” a type of fieldspar. When copper flecks are present, aventurine is often referred to as “goldstone”. Known to promote creativity and imagination, intuition, and leadership, this gem also offers opportunities in life, love, finances and careers. Through the ages, aventurine has also been treasured for its calming effect and is often used to fight anxiety. This effect is also of great benefit as an aid in meditation. Tibetans used aventurine in the eyes of sacred statues to symbolize divine sight.
POEM: The Muse The phoenix from the fire doth rise
with burning passion, flashing eyes
But amidst tears, pain and blues
Quietly appears the muse. Beckoned by heavy shoulders bowed
He replaces sorrows darkened shroud
whispering secrets low; around my throat
he fastens familiar creators cloak. Resplendant then in shades of blue
I may approach the problem new
Whate'r I face, transformed can be
The rhythm of verse shall set me free. From time I rise til back to bed
this mystery is weaving in my head
Walking, talking, working, all the time
secretly turning mundane to rhythm. Yet if unrecorded alas the cost
the words cascade and much is lost
So where e'r I go, I'm waiting then
for in my pocket, I’ve paper and pen!
