HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK
September 5th, this holiday, celebrated everywhere in the United States, honors the work force. It was begun in 1882 by Peter J. McGuire, who suggested the holiday to his labor union. The Central Labor Union agreed and staged the first Labor Day in New York’s Union Square. Ten thousand people strong, the people celebrated with picnics, fireworks, dancing, and speeches. By 1893, thirty other states had followed New York’s lead, and by 1928 all states celebrated Labor Day on the first Monday of September. What are the contributions you make through your labor? Everyone who works, whether in a job, at home, or in school, is involved in the labor force. You are actually giving your life force to work, to yourself, and to other people whom you are serving. Think for a moment about what you do and recognize yourself for your labor.
--Living a Sacred Life, by Robin Heerens Lysne
DEFINITION OF THE DAY: Watch Towers- The four elemental "directions" or "quarters" (corresponding to the appropriate points on the compass) called to protect the Circle during a ritual.
AFFIRMATION: Renew. Today I look to what I want to renew and what I want to release.
--Living a Sacred Life, by Robin Heerens Lysne
QUOTE: “You work that you may keep pace with the Earth and the Soul of the Earth. For to be idle is to become a stranger unto the seasons, and to step out of life’s procession, that marches in majesty and proud submission towards the infinite.”
~Kahlil Gibran
THOUGHT: I believe that there is only one God, and no matter what religion you practice, you are still worshiping the same God. All Gods are one God whether you call him/her God, Allah, Jehovah, Goddess, Brigid, Odin, etc. This is because I believe that God is a part of everything and everything is a part of God. God is infinite and includes all that is positive and negative, male and female, good and evil, dark and light, everything and nothing. Just as your body is a collection of material, energy, and living cells, I believe that the body of God is the sum of the energy, life, and material in the universe. Just as your body can convert matter into energy, God can convert matter to energy and vice versa. I see God as the awareness of the universe, just as our individual consciousnesses are the awareness of all the cells in our bodies combined. All thoughts, souls, material items, and energies come together to form the body of the God. I see God as an all-wise, all-understanding being, emotionally and mentally transcended to the highest point of consciousness. I believe that through wisdom we gain understanding, and through understanding our negative emotions, such as anger, jealousy, need for vengeance, disappointment, frustration, and sorrow, disappear and allow us to experience positive emotions such as peace, joy, and love. For example, if you are jealous of your neighbor for having more money than you do, upset that you are suffering through financial hardship, and filled with self-pity and frustration because you do not have what you desire, it is because you do not understand that there is a reason for your poverty. Perhaps you need to learn a lesson from your lack of wealth. Perhaps not being wealthy has allowed you to experience many other blessings. As you gain understanding of your situation, you begin to feel blessed, joyful, and at peace with your current state. Thus, within God's absolute understanding, negative emotions simply cannot exist. This is why I cannot believe that God is jealous or vengeful as cited in passages of the Torah, Christian Bible, or Koran. I believe that everything is a part of God and God is a part of everything. Even though we are one and the same, we each have an individual awareness. The basis for this idea is nature. In nature we see patterns that allow us to break down very large things into very small things and build up very small things into very large thing. For example, there are sub-subatomic particles that make up subatomic particles. Subatomic particles make up atoms which in turn make up molecules. In organism, these molecules come together to form organelles which make up cells that comprise tissues which form organs. The organs come together to form organ systems, and the systems come together to create a body. The individual awareness of every organ, cell, molecule, and subatomic particle work together to conduct the processes necessary to sustain life. The life it sustains also has an awareness. It is our consciousness. Similar patterns repeat in non-living materials. Molecules form elements and composites. From these elements and composites we build solids, liquids, gasses, and plasmas. Our entire planet is made from these substances. The planets make up a solar system. The solar systems comprise galaxies. Galaxies comprise a universe that is growing and changing constantly. Most likely there are other universes, and they probably comprise some even larger astronomical body. From the biggest thing we understand scientifically to the smallest thing we understand, the big things are made up of the little things, and the little things come together to make big things. Thus, in a spiritual sense, each of us is like a molecule and God is the universe. We are all connected yet individual.
PRAYER:
Prayers for Before Meals
Mother, Father Whose love I seek
Bless my food
Bless my drink
Give me wealth
In life and health
I give thanks
For this meal today
So mote it be.
Earth we thank you for this food,
For rest and home and all things good,
For wind and rain and sun above,
But most of all for those we love.
Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat;
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything.
So mote it be.
Thank You for the food we eat.
Thank You for the friends we meet.
Help us Lady, to not forget ,
quietness, kindness and respect.
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, For love and friends,
For everything Thy Goddess sends.
So mote it be.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO….WHAT ELSE ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR???
SPELL TO FIND JOY IN YOUR JOB:
Spend some time thinking about your work. If you are dissatisfied with your current job, make a list of what you could do differently so that work would be meaningful for you. Light a green candle that you have dressed with oil of pine. Fold your work list into a tiny square and pass it through the smoke of the candle. Now wrap the square in a dollar bill and place it in a green bag with an agate and the Three of Pentacles tarot card. Sleep with this bag under your pillow for thirteen nights.

HEART OF PEACE MEDITATION
Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Imagine there is a garden in your heart. This is your special place. No one else need come here unless you invite them. Notice whether you have a boundary around your heart or not. If you have nothing separating your heart from the outside world, imagine that you could build one if it feels right. It may be a circle of trees; it may be a hedge row or a stone wall, whatever you desire and feels right for you. Invite your higher self, your inner family, (mother, father, or child). Notice these relationships and notice their familiarity with one another. Now invite your allies. Notice that some might be animals or spirits. Invite in the two or more parts of yourself that are in conflict. Just be with them. Then listen to the dispute. Hear all each has to say. When you are ready, ask for a solution to the conflict to be presented. Be with what is. It may come from a surprising source. When the solution is agreed upon or everyone shifts into alignment, thank everyone for coming and let them go. Be with yourself and your inner family knowing you can come back any time you wish.

GODDESS: Isis- Egyptian Earth and Creator Goddess, Goddess of Abundance, Death, Dreams, Enchantments, Magick, Marriage, Reincarnation, Rituals, Success, Tarot. Also called Great Mother, Giver of Life, Mistress of Magick, The Great of Magick. She is sister/wife of Osiris and mother of Horus. She is often depicted as a woman wearing the solar disc or as a kneeling woman with outstretched wings. Her sacred animals include the ape, cat, cow, eagle, goose, hawk, lion, owl, ram, scorpion, snake, sphinx, swallow, vulture. Sacred colors are green, red, and sky blue. Gemstones include amethyst, aquamarine, beryl, crystal, pearl, peridot, ruby, sapphire, star sapphire, and turquoise. Sacred herbs and plants include the date palm, fig, heather, and onion.
--Egyptian Love Spells and Rituals, by Claudia R. Dillaire
GOD: Geb- Egyptian God of Creation, Crops, Earth Fertility, and New Beginnings. Titles include Chief of the Gods, Father of the Gods. Nut is his consort, sister, and beloved; he is the father of Nut’s children; and son of Shu and Tefnut. He is often depicted laying stretched out under Nut. His sacred animal is the goose.
--Egyptian Love Spells and Rituals, by Claudia R. Dillaire
HERB/TREE: Basil- European folklore places sweet basil high on the list of love charms. Its scent alone is believed to excite a feeling of sympathy between two people. One tale records how a young man on a journey of discovery is stopped in his tracks by a maiden from whose hand he accepts a sprig of basil. They fall in love and live happily ever after. Its magical quality may have come from India, its place of origin, where it has long been regarded as sacred, an herb to be grown in temple gardens. However, in medieval Europe basil came to be known as a plant of Mars with all that planet’s negative character. Some old herbals remark upon a strong association with poison and scorpions. Despite the paradox, the Greeks still crown a bride with sweet basil in one of the world’s oldest wedding traditions. The delightful aroma of its fresh leaves is enough to dispel dispiriting thoughts.
--The ABC of Magic Charms, by Elizabeth Pepper
GEMSTONE: Amethyst- the name of the clear purple or blue-violet variety of crystallized quartz comes from the Greek word amethystos, meaning “not to be intoxicated”. However, the original significance of the stone is a bit more interesting than merely preventing drunkenness. It was the jewel worn by the High Priest during initiation rites into the Eleusinian Mysteries in order that he might not become “confused, distracted, or overwhelmed by the intense fascination of external phenomena.” The secrets of Eleusis were never revealed, and eventually Dionysos, the god of wine, was worshipped there. During the Middle Ages the amethyst was not only called a wine stone but became associated with sacrifice. In this context the gem was an amulet of protection for both hunter and soldier. An amethyst placed under the pillow was believed to bring a sleeper prophetic dreams and to ensure their memory.

POEM:
Blessed be the wind that blows
Blessed be the fire that glows
Blessed be the water that flows
Blessed be the earth that grows
Blessed be the spirit that knows.
