Beltane (May Day)
Falls on May 1st
Means “bright fire” or “lucky fire”
Time to ground your visions, rooting them firmly at the physical level
Traditionally, this is the day when sweet desire weds wild delight. The Maiden of the Spring and the Lord of the Waxing Year meet in the greening fields and rejoice and unite under the warm sun. The Sun God is conceived.
Some ideas for Beltane:
•Collect the morning dew to use in future spells and potions (Dew gathered Beltane morning is considered especially powerful)
•Hang prayer ribbons on the trees and bushes on your property
•Sew ribbons onto a white handkerchief, then empower each ribbon for a different goal or wish (keep safe until all wishes are granted)
•Hang a branch of rowan tied with red thread above your door for protection
•Bless your garden
•Jump over a small fire for good luck this year
•Make love
Birch Spell to Find Love
On the night of the new moon, gather a strip of birch bark. Light a stick of sandalwood incense and write Bring Me True Love on the bark in red ink. Then, either---
Burn it and say:
“Spirit of love,
Heart of desire,
Bring to me sweet passion’s fire.”
OR
Cast the bark into a stream and say:
“Message of love,
I set you free,
To find me love and return to me.”
Spell for Self-Love
Around your bathroom, light purple candles so their light will cast on your bath water. Let the water run and pour some rose oil into the bath. Place a rose quartz or an amethyst into the bath. Lie in the water and swirl the light pools one at a time. With each one, say:
“I exist, I am unique, I am beautiful,
I am of worth, I have many gifts,
[name them]
I value myself, love myself,
I am complete in myself,
I treasure what I have and who I am,
As I am right now.”
Continue to swirl the light pools, visualizing it flowing within you, making you a body of love and light. Make a wish for yourself in each light pool. When you are ready, pull the plug and say:
“Doubts and sorrow, flow from me,
What I wish, I will be.”
Look at yourself in the mirror and see your true beauty. Carry the candles into your room. Let them burn down and spend the rest of the day relaxing.
Love Letters Spell to Strengthen a Bond
This spell is best done on a Friday while the moon is waxing. With a red ballpoint pen, write your name and your lover’s name on a piece of pink paper, so that the letters are interspersed. [For example, Bill and Sue would be written: BSIULEL] Put a dot of rose oil on each corner of the paper, then fold it three times. With each dot and fold, repeat the word that’s formed when your names are merged this way. Tie a length of red ribbon around the folded paper and make six knots. Then envision you and your partner being interconnected as the letters in the magick word formed by your joined names. Keep the paper in a safe place.
Lucky Seven Love Drawing Pouch for a Fun Fling
On top of a red cloth, place the following seven ingredients:
1 tablespoon of rosemary, 3 fresh pink rose petals, a splash of water, a rose quartz, a tablespoon of salt, a dash of cayenne pepper, and a dried cherry.
Tie the cloth with pink ribbon so that it becomes a pouch. Hang the pouch on your bedpost.
May-Time Tribute Poem
Time of May, season of loveliness,
Full-throated blackbirds welcome the sun’s new beams.
The cuckoo sounds a welcome to the summer.
It soothes the memory of the bitter weather
While the bare branches become a thorny hedge.
Summer dries up the little streams,
The cattle seek out water,
The heather spreads its long hair,
And the green grass blooms.
The sea is smooth, the ocean is asleep,
The world is covered in flowers.
Bees carry heavy pollen on their feet,
Cattle go up the mountain,
The ant finds a new feast.
The harp of the forest sounds its music,
Its notes bring peace.
Colors have descended on the hills
And a mist over the lake.
The corncrake squawks, a tireless poet,
The rushing waterfall greets the warm pool with song
And rushes whisper.
Delicate swallows flit through the air,
Music is on the hillside,
The fruit is all in bud.
Lovely is the season, full of fresh delight,
Winter’s chill wind is gone,
The woods are bursting with new life,
Joy and tranquility are come at last.
QUOTE FOR THE DAY
“There are as many paths to the Great Spirit as there are people on Earth.” ~Raven Grimassi, Hereditary Witchcraft
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I believe that we were originally part of God's consciousness. That she called us out of herself, and we became individuals, living lives. In this way, we learn for her. As we each eventually return to her, we become a part of her again, and she is more aware for the experience. Perhaps she calls us forward again, after resting within her for a while... who knows?
