Ostara (Spring Equinox)
Falls on March 20th
Means “the month of beginnings” or “the month of openings”
Time to fertilize our thought forms; the impregnation of our dreams, wishes, and goals
This day is sacred to Eostre, the Anglo-Saxon or Germanic goddess of Spring. She is usually associated with a magical egg-laying rabbit. (Sound familiar?) She has connections to the dawn and the Maiden aspect of the Goddess.
Some Magickal Ideas for Ostara:
•Color and empower Eostre eggs for health, wealth, and rebirth
•Celebrate the return of the Goddess by potting plants and giving them to friends or loved ones
•Bless seeds for a garden
•Review the items in your magickal cabinet and replace what is needed
•Watch the sun rise
Shower Spell for a New Beginning Everyday
In the morning, when you take your shower, wash your hair and then rinse it out imagining all of the negativity in your life rinsing down the drain with the suds of your shampoo. Say:
“Water of Spirit,
Water of Life,
Flow through me now,
And carry all strife,
Out of my mind,
And out of my heart,
Every new day,
Is a whole new start.”
Tribute to the Spring Equinox
Time of perfect balance, day with night and light with darkness.
Earth reveals new riches, while the Sun-god hangs,
waiting to triumph over darkness, waiting to mount the skies towards midsummer.
Festival of waxing strength and potency.
Time of the Maiden, Virgin Goddess, Lady Day.
Feast of beginnings, of Eostre, she of jeweled eggs, spring rabbits, hares, fertility.
Goddess disappearing with moon’s blackness,
deity descending three-days into darkness and realm of faded spirits.
Light-restoring newborn one, quencher of the land of shadows.
You who overcome the darkness, ending the grip of coldness,
clothing the bare-branched trees, and greening the barren landscape.
Hail to you, ice-breaker of the frozen lakes and waters.
Hail to you, fair source of springs and gushing rivers.
Hail to you, transformer of the power of death and Winter.
Hail triumphant herald of the Sun-god’s gladness.
