HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK
August 29th, Egyptian New Year- In the ancient Egyptian calendar, today is the New Year. It was recognized as a particularly magical time when the masculine force of the Sun and the feminine force of the Stars united. On this day, statues from temples and shrines were placed outside, where they could be charged with the fusion of these sacred energies. The Egyptians also believed it was the time when Sekhmet commenced her transformation back into the beautiful goddess, Hathor. If there is something you wish to transform, carefully consider it today. List only one or two things you wish to change, with an achievable time frame and steps to take. Make a journal note in a few weeks time to remind you of your goal. To seal your commitment to yourself, clean out a cupboard, rearrange furniture, or bring some fresh flowers indoors to make an immediate transformation.
September 1st, Greek New Year- Many Greeks consider this their New Year’s Day. This day marks the beginning of the sowing season, a time of promise and hope. On this day, people fashion wreaths of pomegranates, quinces, grapes, and garlic bulbs- all traditional symbols of abundance. Just before dawn on September 1st, children submerge the wreaths in the ocean waters for good luck. They carry seawater and pebbles home with them in small jars to serve as protection in the coming year. Tradition calls for exactly forty pebbles and water from exactly forty waves.
--Witches’ Spell-a-Day Almanac
DEFINITION OF THE DAY: Aura- the life energy field which surrounds all living things.
AFFIRMATION: Flow. Today I am in the flow, life hands me gift after gift, and I am greatly blessed by the new possibilities opening up to me.
--Living a Sacred Life by: Robin Heerens, Lysne
QUOTE: “The moon is like a mystery novel, the sun like a motivational self-help book, and the stars a coffee table book of photography. The sky is the whole library, and God the librarian.” ~Terri Guillemets
THOUGHT: Imagine a beautiful meadow in a forest with many paths leading to it. It doesn't matter how you get to the meadow so long as you get there without harming anyone or anything along the way.
PRAYER: Prayer for Strength-
This day Goddess gives me Strength of high heaven,
Sun and Moon shining, Flame in my hearth,
Flashing of lightning, Wind in its swiftness,
Deeps of the ocean, Firmness of Earth.
This day Goddess sends me Strength as my mainstay. So may it be.
SOOOOOOOOOOOO……..WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS???
SPELL: Acorn Charm for Inner Strength-
Empower an acorn with the following chant: “Little seed with cap so fine, Grant your strength and make it mine. Make me as sturdy as your tree, As I will, so mote it be.” Carry it with you wherever you go.
MEDITATION: Body of Light Meditation-
Find a place where you won’t be disturbed. Sit in a comfortable chair and close your eyes. Take three deep breaths and relax. Count down slowly from ten to one. Imagine that there is a pinprick of light inside your body, hovering around your naval. Slowly encourage the light to grow, moving into the trunk of your body, into your legs, then into your shoulders, arms, and neck, moving into your feet, and spreading out to the top of your head and the tips of your toes. Take a deep breath and relax. Now envision this light sparkling right underneath every inch of your skin. Allow the light to move through the skin and form a dancing white aura around your body, and remember this light is still coming from the inside of your body. Allow yourself to feel that you are one with the Universe. There is no care or worry, no pain or unhappiness. Ask yourself, “What do I need?” and allow a picture to come forward in your mind. It doesn’t matter how silly or stupid the image seems. Just let one come.
Take another deep breath and relax. Let the light continue to swirl around you. Let go of the image, if you haven’t already. Allow the light to retract inside your body. Count from one to five and open your eyes, telling yourself that you feel refreshed and filled with harmony.
Write down the image that you saw. Think about what it may mean to you. If you don’t understand the image, that’s okay. You made a record of it and perhaps it will make sense later. The mind is funny that way sometimes, and needs a day or two to consciously mull over those gifts from the subconscious.

GODDESS: Heket- Egyptian Goddess of Childbirth, Conception, Creation, Fertility, Resurrection. A frog-headed goddess and one of the midwives for the birth of the Sun each morning. Her sacred animal is the frog.
--Egyptian Love Spells and Rituals by: Claudia R. Dillaire
GOD: Bes- Egyptian God of Childbirth, Cosmetics and Female Adornments, Fertility, Luck, Married Couples, Music. Titles include Guardian Against All Evils, Lord of the Land of Punt. Most often portrayed as a grotesque dwarf.
--Egyptian Love Spells and Rituals by: Claudia R. Dillaire
HERB/TREE: Elm- This deciduous tree is sacred to the elves and the Fey. Elm trees once dominated the forests of Britain until Dutch elm disease wiped out many of the oldest trees. On a practical level, the trees are missed. A strong and water-repellent wood, elm was often used for making coffins. Elm trees were also part of the hedgerow and were cultivated to shade vineyards from the sun and to encourage healthy growth of vines. An important tree in both Celtic and Scandinavian myths, the elm also has a connection to the dead and the realms of the underworld and the realm of the Fey. The folk name for the elm tree is “Elven” because elms were often growing around burial mounds and faerie hills. Today if you would like to get in touch with the nature spirits, an elm tree may afford you the greatest opportunity. Add elm leaves into your rituals or create a faerie wand out of a fallen elm branch. The elemental correspondence for the elm tree is water. The planetary association is Saturn. In the language of flowers, this herbal tree signifies dignity.

GEMSTONE: Amber- Amulets made of amber have been used since antiquity. Ancient Greek poets metaphorically likened grains of amber to the tears of grief shed by poplar trees or, in another version, by certain Indian birds. Another poet wrote that amber was the juice of the brilliant rays of the setting sun congealed in the sea. In any case, the beauty and malleability of amber, which is actually a fossilized tree resin, made it popular worldwide. Perhaps in relation to its electromagnetic qualities, amber gained a reputation as a cure. It was said to protect the wearer from headache, toothache, rheumatism, any internal ailment, nosebleeds, and goiter. In many European countries amber is worn to ward off evil. Amulets carved into animal shapes have been found in Norway and in the Far East. It is believed that these animal forms enhance the power of the amulet and endow it with special qualities. Those found in Asia were thought to increase virility and fertility. Amber with natural markings or inclusions is highly prized.
