Cleansing and Consecrating Tools
Cleansing your Tools
When you cleanse a tool, you remove or exorcise the old energies that other people have wittingly or unwittingly impressed upon it. Depending on the nature of the tool, there are a number of ways to cleanse it.
The following list are several different ways to cleanse crystals:
Visualization
Hold the crystal in your hand and visualize a calming, clear and fresh image.
Examples would be a waterfall, a deserted beach or a mountain stream.
With this image in your mind take a deep breath and blow over the crystal two or three times.
Smoke
Place the crystal in the smoke from incense or a sage smudge stick.
Amethyst Druze
Place crystal on a natural piece of amethyst for around 24 hours.
Earth
Bury crystal in the ground for at least 24 hours, or a cycle of the sun and moon.
(But remember where you buried it!)
Rain
Leave outside in the rain. The ideal time is spring when there can be heavy showers followed by strong sunlight and a clear moon at night.
Leave for at least 24 hours to use the full cycle of the sun and moon.
Running Water
immersing your crystals in a running stream, or a river or ocean is also a good way to cleanse crystals. Some even use the faucet and envision the water washing away all negativity.
Give them a bath
Crystals like quartz, amethyst and citrine can be cleaned easily by soaking them in a lukewarm bath into which you have tossed a couple of pinches of salt (negative energy doesn’t like salt), then rinse them with clear water. Use Caution however, as some softer crystals can be damaged using this method. Make sure that your crystal isn’t too cold or too hot and that the water is lukewarm, or the crystal might crack. Use a mild dishwashing liquid solution and a nail brush to scrub big clusters.
Sunlight/Moonlight
You can also set your crystals out in the sunlight for a day, that will usually clear up any psychic turbulence, as well as moonlight.
Consecrating a New Tool
On your altar, you will want incense, a red candle in a sturdy holder, a small bowl of full moon water (bottled spring water can substitute), a bowl of salt and the tool you are planning to consecrate. Cast a circle, then invoke the elements and whichever gods or goddesses you choose. Light the incense (frankincense is good) and your altar candle. Relax and enter a light trance state.
Hold the item up to the north and say:
“By the powers of earth, by the powers of salt,
I consecrate and bless this _______
For use in my rituals and rites.
Empower it with the ability to manifest
And stabilize my magick.
Spirits of the earth, I call upon you
To bless this ______ now!”
Plunge the item into the bowl of salt and draw a pentagram over the item with your hand.
“Spirits of Earth, blessed be.”
Hold the item up to the east and say:
“By the power of air, by the power of smoke,
I consecrate and bless this ______
For use in my rituals and rites.
Empower it with the ability to cleanse
And clarify my magick.
Spirits of the air I call upon you
To bless this _____ now!”
Hold the item in the smoke wafting up from the incense and draw a pentagram over the item with your hand.
“Spirits of air, blessed be.”
Hold the item to the south and say:
“By the powers of fire, by the powers of flame,
I consecrate and bless this _____
For use in my rituals and rites.
Empower it with the ability to energize
And strengthening my magick.
Spirits of fire, I call upon you
To bless this _____ now!”
Plunge the tip of the item in the candle flame (if it can catch on fire, hold it above the flame) and draw a pentagram over the item with your hand.
“Spirits of fire, blessed be.”
Hold the item to the west and say:
“By the powers of the sea, by the power of water,
I consecrate and bless this _____
For use in my rituals and rites.
Empower it with the ability to bring intuition
And understanding to my magick.
Spirits of water, I call upon you
To bless this _____ now!”
Plunge the item into a bowl of water and draw a pentagram over the item with your free hand.
“Spirits of water, blessed be.”
Hold the item up in the air above your head and say:
“I ask the lord and lady
To consecrate and bless this _____
For use in my rituals and rites.
Great mother and holy father, I call upon you
To bless this _____ now!”
Draw a pentagram in the air with the item
“Lord and Lady, blessed be.”
